Meet Samson, an English Mastif. A strong, proud, beautiful, powerful dog. Samson was always playful, full of life and dedicated to his family. A protector, a loving soul and a friend. Samson passed away on September 3, 2017. This strong powerful dog was conquered and destroyed by something as small as a pencil point, a blacklegged tick (deer tick).
We all saw Samson just days before he passed. We remember standing in the living room, which was full of family and friends. Sadness hung over the home like dark clouds. Samson laid on that big futon taking labored breaths. The lumps in our throats and the sadness in our hearts was overwhelming. When we left that evening we felt there was something we needed to do. To many pets and loved ones suffering from lyme disease and some losing the battle. We were full of sadness, madness and fear. Who was next? Humans getting sick with muscle stiffness and pain being treated with rounds of medication and animals encountering the same effects and some resulting in death. Why is it something so tiny can cause such huge pain and despair.
